Connect ToonyStory to Claude, ChatGPT & Other AI Assistants

Add ToonyStory as a connector in your AI assistant to write, illustrate, and share storybooks straight from chat

What the Connector Does

ToonyStory has a built-in connector (an MCP server) that lets AI assistants like Claude and ChatGPT work with your account directly. Once connected, you can:

  • Write a story together in chat and save it to your library
  • Star your saved characters, or create new ones from a description or photo
  • Generate illustrations for every page (uses credits, confirmed with you first)
  • Check on books, get share links, and export reading or print-ready PDFs

Saving stories is free. Illustrations cost the same credits they do in the app.

You don't need any of this to use ToonyStory. The connector is an optional extra for people who already work in an AI assistant — the full experience lives at toonystory.com, and everything you create in chat shows up in your library, where you can keep editing in the app.

Connector URL: https://toonystory.com/api/mcp

Connect from Claude

Custom connectors are available on paid Claude plans (web, desktop, and mobile).

  1. Open Settings → Connectors in Claude
  2. Click Add custom connector
  3. Name it ToonyStory and paste https://toonystory.com/api/mcp
  4. Click Connect — you'll be sent to toonystory.com to sign in and approve
  5. Back in a chat, try: "What characters do I have in ToonyStory?"

Connect from ChatGPT

ChatGPT supports custom connectors through developer mode.

  1. Open Settings → Connectors → Advanced and enable Developer mode
  2. Create a new connector named ToonyStory with the URL https://toonystory.com/api/mcp and OAuth authentication
  3. Sign in on toonystory.com and approve the connection
  4. Enable the ToonyStory connector in a new chat and start creating

Connect from Claude Code or Other MCP Clients

ToonyStory is a standard remote MCP server (Streamable HTTP + OAuth 2.1). For Claude Code:

claude mcp add --transport http toonystory https://toonystory.com/api/mcp

Other MCP clients can add it as a remote server with the same URL — sign-in is handled automatically through OAuth.

Security & Control

  • You sign in on toonystory.com, never inside the AI app. Your password is never shared with the assistant.
  • The connector cannot delete books or characters. It can remove a single page while editing a story — a full snapshot is saved to the editor's Version History first, so it's always restorable.
  • Illustrations use credits, and your assistant confirms before spending them.
  • Revoke any connection anytime from Account Settings → Connected apps.

Troubleshooting

The assistant says it's missing permissions. The connection was authorized with fewer permissions than it needs. Remove the ToonyStory connector in your AI app and add it again to re-authorize.

The connection stopped working. Check Account Settings → Connected apps to see if the connection is still active. If it was revoked, reconnect from your AI app.

Illustrations seem stuck. Illustration jobs run in the background and can take a few minutes for a full book. Ask your assistant to check the status — it polls the same job the app would show you.
