Content Ownership & Rights

Understand who owns the stories and images you create on ToonyStory

You Own What You Create

Everything you create on ToonyStory belongs to you — your stories, illustrations, characters, and uploaded photos. We do not claim ownership of your content. You are free to use what you create for any lawful purpose, including:

  • Printing and selling books through ToonyStory or elsewhere
  • Sharing stories publicly with family, friends, or on social media
  • Using your images in other personal or commercial projects

What License Does ToonyStory Keep?

We retain only a limited, non-exclusive license to host, display, and distribute your content as needed to operate the service. For example, we need this license to render your book, generate a preview, or send your files to our print partners for fulfillment.

This license ends when you delete your content or your account. We do not use your content for advertising or sell it to third parties.

Print Partners

When you order a printed book, our print fulfillment partners (such as Lulu Direct or Printful) receive only the access necessary to produce and ship your order. They do not acquire any rights to your content.

Likeness & Consent

If you upload photos of real people to create illustrated characters, you are responsible for obtaining appropriate consent — especially for minors (a parent or legal guardian must consent). You may use the resulting illustrations for personal and commercial purposes, but you may not use someone's likeness in a way that implies their endorsement or sponsorship without their explicit permission.

For more details, see Section 5 of our Terms of Service.

A Note on Copyright Law

Under current U.S. copyright law, purely AI-generated content — where no meaningful human creative input was involved — may not be eligible for formal copyright registration. However, the creative choices you make on ToonyStory (selecting characters, customizing storylines, editing text, arranging illustrations) constitute human creative direction that can strengthen your copyright claim.

If you're looking for formal copyright protection or have questions about your specific rights, we recommend consulting an intellectual property attorney.
